Wildcat Football Picks Up Second Victory Behind Jarrett's Big Day

Nicholas Jarrett rushed for a career-high 210 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Culver-Stockton College football team to a 42-31 victory over William Penn University at Statesmen Community Stadium in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.

Jarrett, who had rushed for a then career-best 125 yards last week in a loss to Peru State, carried the ball 36 times for a 5.8 yards per carry average. He scored on a 47-yard run early in the second quarter to give the Wildcat the lead for good. Jarrett added a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to help the Wildcats extend the lead to 28-19.

Playing with backup quarter Houston Swan for a second straight week due to an injury to starter Drake Day, C-SC rushed for a season-high 231 yards overall with the help of Jarrett. It marked the fourth time this season the Wildcats have rushed for over 200 yards in a game.

Jarrett wasn't the only bright spot for the Wildcats, who also got a pair of touchdowns from the defense.

After Jarrett had given the Wildcats a 14-7 lead with his 47-yard run, Culver-Stockton extended the lead on the ensuing possession with the help of the defense.

The Statesmen had driven to the C-SC 10-yard line but a holding penalty moved the ball back to the 20=yard line. William Penn picked up five yards to the 15 before settling for a field goal attempt.

The Wildcats' Kaden Thomas blocked the kick attempt and Joseph Cook scooped up the loose ball and raced 86 yards for a touchdown to extend the Wildcat lead to 21-7 midway thought the second quarter.

Cook wasn't done creating havoc on the Statesmen offense.

Leading 28-18 in the third quarter after Jarrett's second rushing touchdown, Cook forced a fumble on William Penn's ensuing possession. C-SC's Brooklyn Hyman recovered the fumble and returned in 29 yards for a touchdown and a 35-19 lead with four minutes left in the third quarter.

The Statesmen scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull within 35-31with 5:46 left in the game; however, the Wildcats sealed the victory with an eight-play, 59-yard drive culminating in an 18-yard pass from Swan to Kyle Dixon. Dixon now has 11 touchdowns on the season, including 10 receiving scores.

It was Swan's second touchdown pass of the day who also found Gavin Gardner with an eight-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring in the first quarter. Swan finished the day 10-for-13 for 85 yards passing.

Thomas led the defense with 11 total tackles, including six solo stops and the blocked field goal, while Kendall Fowler, Cook and Mason Vicary registered eight total tackles each. Cook finished with C-SC's only sack and Vicary recovered a fumble as the Wildcats forced three turnovers.

The Wildcats, now 2-8 overall and 2-3 in the Heart's North Division, is slated to play their season finale next Saturday, Nov. 16, against Clarke University. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. with Senior Day activities beginning at 12:30 p.m.
