Wildcats Go Overtime to Earn First Heart Victory
The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team picked up its first Heart of America Athletic Conference victory with an 83-74 overtime victory over Park University Saturday afternoon in Parkville, Mo.
The Wildcats outscored the Pirates 16-7 in the overtime period and pulled away despite trailing early in the extra session.
Park scored five of the first seven points in the overtime to lead 72-69 less than minute into the overtime period.
However, Robert Fry II drained two free throws, Jalen Blaize hit a pair of 3-pointers and Seth Larson made a pair of free throws during a 10-0 C-SC run to build a 79-72 lead.
The Wildcats were just 3-for-5 from the field in the overtime period, but went 8-for-10 from the foul line to keep the Pirates at a distance. Park was just 3-for-10 from the field in the extra period.
Blaize came off the bench to net a team-high 20 points, including six 3-pointers. CaRondis Harris-Anderson contributed 19 points while Fry chipped in with 12 markers and a team-best five assists.
Javon Modester and Jim King each recorded nine points in the game with King leading the Wildcats on the glass with six caroms. C-SC was out-rebounded 52-39.
The Wildcats forced 17 turnovers and took advantage by scoring 16 points off those turnovers. C-SC had just six miscues in the game.
C-SC, now 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference, is slated to host 13th-ranked William Penn University this Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Charles Field House. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
