
Softball Drops Twinbill at Clarke
The Culver-Stockton softball team dropped a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader to Clarke University Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Wildcats were held to four hits in a 6-1 loss in the opener game. Then, in game two, C-SC allowed three runs on the bottom of the fifth inning to suffer a 5-4 loss in the nightcap. The Wildcats are now 7-29 overall and 1-11 in the Heart.
In game two, C-SC was trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning when they scored twice to take a 3-2 lead. Ryley Pecina tripled to open the frame and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kataleena Hunt, who made it to second base when the centerfielder dropped the ball for an error.
Hunt then stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Payton Todd to give the Wildcats the lead.
C-SC added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Lacey Stamper led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Tiffany Lepic, and scored on a single by Cierra Bush to make it a 4-2 Wildcat lead.
However, the Pride plated three runs on four hits and a C-SC error in the bottom of the inning to to take a 5-4 lead.
The Wildcats put the first two batters on in the sixth inning, but Myah Briese popped out and Lauren Ferguson lined into a double play to end the inning.
Stamper and Hunter Huddle collected two hits each to lead the Wildcats' eight hit attack. Huddle, with a double, and Pecina with a triple registered extra base hits.
In the first game, C-SC fell behind 6-0 before Bush delivered a two-out double to score Carli Scifres, who had reached on an error, in the fifth inning.
However, the Wildcats could only manage three singles and a Bush's double off of the Clarke hurler. The Wildcats struck out nine times in the game.
C-SC is back in action on Monday, April 7, against ninth-ranked Central Methodist University at Himsl Field. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
