Trio of Wildcat Runners Qualify for NAIA National Marathon Championships

Three Culver-Stockton College track and field athletes have punched their tickets to the NAIA Marathon National Championships. The Championship is being held Dec. 3, 2023, in Sacramento, Calif., in conjunction with the California International Marathon (CIM).

Allison Morris, a graduate student from Antioch, Ill. (Antioch HS / Iowa Wesleyan) and Faith Younce, a junior from Bonney Lake, Wash. (Bonney Lake HS / Iowa Wesleyan) qualified from the women's team; while Kile Dowd, a junior from Danville, Iowa (Danville HS / Southeastern CC) qualified from the men's team.

The NAIA Marathon National Championship is being held as a standalone event this year. It previously was a part of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Qualifications for this event took place from August 9-Nov 5 (12 weeks). Student-athletes who wanted to be considered to run in the marathon had to average 50 miles per week during that 12 week training period. Secondly, during those 12 weeks of training the student-athlete had to complete a minimum of two 2-hour runs.

The trio of Wildcat runners have compiled over 1,750 miles between them since moving onto campus in early August. A total of 100 spots (50 men/50 women) this year were allotted to the NAIA by the CIM.

C-SC fans can follow along via the track and field/cross country X page (@CSCWldcatXCTF) for live updates every five kilometers during the race.
