Peru State Hands Wildcat Softball Two Losses

The Culver-Stockton softball team dropped a pair of close games to Peru State College Sunday afternoon in Peru, Neb.

The Wildcats overcame a 3-2 deficit in the opener to tie the game in the seventh only to see the Bobcats plate a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 4-3 victory in the opener. In the nightcap, each team scored a run in the first inning and Peru plated two in the second en route to a 3-1 victory.

In the opening game, the Wildcat trailed 3-2 entering the seventh inning when Kataleena Hunt doubled with one out and scored on a single by Cierra Bush.

Peru held a 1-0 lead through four innings before the Wildcat offense came to life. Tiffany Lepic opened the fifth inning with a single and advanced to second on a single by Ryley Pecina

After Lacey Stamper advanced the runners with a groundout, Hunt hit a sacrifice fly to score Lepic. A passed ball scored Pecina and the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead to the sixth inning.

Hunt and Pecina collected two hits each to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Kaylee Yost pitched the first five innings, allowing just one hit and two runs. Yost struck out three and walked two. Penny Ruiz relieved Yost in the sixth inning and suffered the loss.

In game two, the Wildcats recorded three straight one out singles to load the bases in the top of the first inning. Lepic followed with a fourth straight single to score a run but that would be all the offense the Wildcats would muster.

C-SC collected just two more hits over the next six innings and the Bobcats plated a run in the first and two moron the second to hand the Wildcats their fourth straight Heart loss.

Bush led the Wildcat offense with two hits. Ruiz garnered the loss in the circle despite allowing just three runs on six hits. She walked one and struck out one.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader against William Woods University this Tuesday, March 25, at Himsl Field. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
