Code of Ethics

The Culver-Stockton College athletics program is highly visible throughout the Canton community and in the larger tri-state area. Those who participate in its intercollegiate athletic programs represent the very fabric and mission of our college. By choosing to participate in an activity so closely tied to the public's perception of the College, they have an additional obligation to uphold the mission and values of our institution. Student-Athletes at Culver-Stockton College are expected to carry themselves both on and off the field with high moral and ethical standards and are required to adhere to the mission of the college and its athletic department.

Therefore, as a Culver-Stockton College student-athlete I agree to:

  1. Embrace the mission of Culver-Stockton College.
  2. Hold myself to the highest standards of integrity in the classroom, on the practice field, during competition and in the community.
  3. Commit to the idea that participation in athletics is part of the educational process.
  4. Promote the well-being and the success of my teammates and coaches.
  5. Conduct myself as a "true sportsman" both in victory and defeat.
  6. Respect the dignity and rights of every person and show an understanding and tolerance of differences in individual people.
  7. Pledge to my coaching staff the highest levels of loyalty, fidelity, cooperation, team effort, hard work, openness to constructive criticism and willingness to be guided by their knowledge, skill and expertise.
  8. Participate in campus life and contribute to building a sense of community pride while volunteering on campus service projects and projects that affect the larger community.
  9. Practice a healthy lifestyle, refusing and discouraging the use, possession and distribution of alcohol, tobacco, illegal narcotics and performance-enhancement drugs.
  10. Live my life in such a way that I am an example and source of inspiration to my family, teammates, fans, professors, staff and the larger community.

I have read, understand, and will to the best of my ability, live by this Code of Ethics. I also understand that violations of this Code of Ethics may result in and are not limited to game suspensions, fines, reduction or revocation of athletic scholarships, and suspension from the team in which I participate. Sanctions may be administered by the athletic department and/or the Athletic Advisory Committee through the College's Judicial Process.
