
Cassie Burris Named Student-Athlete of the Month for March
Culver-Stockton College junior Cassie Burris has been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student Athlete of the Month for March.
Burris, a 5-foot-9 first baseman from Indianola, Iowa (Indianola HS) is a three-year letterwinner on the softball team. She is one of three players to start every game for the Wildcats, appearing in 43 games to date. Burris is batting .365 with a team-leading 11 home runs and 51 runs batted in. In addition, she has collected 46 hits, including 12 doubles and three triples, and has scored 34 runs. Burris has also walked a team-best 22 times and has been hit by a pitched ball 13 times. She is slugging a .770 and has an on-base percentage of .503.
In her career, Burris has started all 142 games she has played. She has a career .337 batting average with 141 career hits, including 31 doubles, eight triples and 25 home runs. Burris recently became the school's all-time leader in runs batted in. She currently has 144 career RBI's. In 2016, Burris was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and to the league's all-conference first team.
Off the field, Burris is pursuing a degree in nursing. She has been named to the honors list in all five completed semesters, appearing on the President's List three times, the Dean's List one time and the Honor Roll one time.
Burris is the seventh Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for the 2017-18 school year. Junior women's volleyball player Anna Stock was honored in September, senior football player Matt Kelly was honored in October, junior bowler Joey Krzywonos was honored in November, junior women's basketball player Lacey Clark was honored in December, senior men's volleyball player James Heisse was lauded in January, and senior baseball player Daniel Smith was picked in February.
