Mike Johnson Named Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for December

Culver-Stockton College guard Mike Johnson has been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student Athlete of the Month for December.

Johnson, a 6-foot, 160-pound senior from Jackson, Mich. (Jackson HS / Lansing CC), is a two-year starter for the men's basketball team. He earned All-Heart of America Athletic Conference first team honors and NAIA All-America honorable mention accolades in 2017-18 after leading the Wildcats and the Heart in scoring, averaging 23.6 points per game. In the process, Johnson set a school record for points in a single season with 735 points, shattering the previous record of 681 set during the 1979-80 campaign.

In his career, Johnson became the 38th player in school history to record 1,000 career points, reaching the milestone on Jan. 5 against Benedictine College in Atchison. Kan. He was able to achieve the mark in just 47 career games. Johnson, who is averaging 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game through games of Jan. 5, currently has 1,011 career points, which ranks 36th all-time.

Off the field, Johnson is pursuing a degree in criminal justice. In five completed semesters, Johnson has been named to the President's List one time, the Dean's List two times and the Honor Roll two times. In addition, Johnson was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2018 for having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale.

Johnson is the fourth Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for the 2018-19 school year. Gabby Hickman (women's volleyball), Kehley Bitzas (women's soccer) and Alex Gonzalez (football) were honored in September, October and November, respectively.
