Avery Johnson Named Student-Athlete of the Month for March

Culver-Stockton College outfielder Avery Johnson has been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student Athlete of the Month for March.

Johnson, a senior from Durham, Mo. (Highland HS), is a four-year letterwinner on the softball team who has started every game of her career totaling 176 to date. She is batting .365 this season with seven doubles, two triples and a team-best 18 runs batted in. Johnson also has scored 17 runs and pilfered seven bases this season.

In her career, Johnson is batting .359 with 37 doubles, four triples and 19 home runs. She also has compiled 136 runs scored, 120 runs batted in and 40 stolen bases. Johnson has 198 career hits, which ranks fourth on the school's all-time list. In addition to the hits, Johnson ranks seventh in runs scored, sixth in doubles, fifth in home runs and fifth in runs batted in.

Johnson has been named to the All-Heart of America Athletic Conference team three times in her career, including two second team selections and a first team selection in 2018. She was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All Midwest Region second team last season.

Off the softball field, Johnson is pursuing a degree in elementary education. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society and the Pi Lambda Theta Education Honor Society. Johnson has been named to the school's President's List three times and the Dean's List three times. Last season she was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete and has been a NFCA Scholar-Athlete three times. In addition, Johnson was recently was awarded the Dodson Award for Achievement in Teaching at the Education Honors Day.

Johnson is the seventh Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for the 2018-19 school year. Gabby Hickman (women's volleyball), Kehley Bitzas (women's soccer) and Alex Gonzalez (football) were honored in September, October and November, respectively. Mike Johnson (men's basketball), Carly Harper (women's basketball), and Cheyenne Roberts (women's bowling) were honored in December, January and February.
