Thaddeus Newby Named Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for December

Culver-Stockton College guard Thaddeus Newby has been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student Athlete of the Month for December.

Newby, a graduate student from Chicago Heights, Ill. (Marion Catholic HS) is a four-year member of the men's basketball team. He has appeared in 94 career games to date and was the 39th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. Newby currently has 1,003 points and is tied for 38th in school history. In addition, Newby needs just two 3-point field goals to become the school's all-time leader in that category. He currently has 198 career treys, which is just one behind James Johnson's 199 career 3-pointers from 2012-14.

This season, Newby is averaging 10.6 points, pulling down 3.1 rebounds and dishing out 1.9 assists per game. He is shooting 37 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 91 percent from the free throw line. He is second on the team with 27 three-point field goals made. Newby has been named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference team as an honorable mention selection the past two seasons.

Off the court, Newby graduated in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with an emphasis in forensics accounting. He is currently working towards a master's degree in management from Culver-Stockton. During his time on the Hill, Newby has been named to the Dean's List and Honor Roll. He was recently recognized by Culver-Stockton College's Office of Multicultural Development as a Scholar of Distinction recipient for the fall 2019 semester during a reception on Friday, Dec. 13. Students were selected for their student leadership, commitment to personal achievement and academic excellence.

While an undergraduate, Newby served as the President of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and was a Co-Chair for the Wildcat Student-Athlete Council (WSAC). He was also named to the Phi Eta Sigma National Freshman Honor Society

Newby is the fourth Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for the 2019-20 school year. Brody Hassel (football) was named the September honoree while Shelby Winn (women's soccer) was named in October and Agustin Mosquera (men's soccer) was the November honoree.
