Madison Matney Named Student-Athlete of the Month for February

Culver-Stockton College women's track and field athlete Madison Matney has been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athlete of the Month for February.

Matney, a junior thrower from New Franklin, Mo. (New Franklin HS) competes mainly in the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season, and the shot put, hammer throw and discus during the outdoor season. During the 2021 indoor season, Madison finished first in the weight throw at the Graceland Indoor Winter Series #2 with a throw of 41 feet, 10 ½ inches. She followed that up the next week with a second place finish at the Winter Series #3 with a throw of 42 feet, 9 ½ inches. In the shot put, Madison finished 12th in the Heart Indoor Championships with a season-best 36 feet, 5 ¾ inches, which ranked 14th overall in the Heart during the season.

In her indoor career, Madison has recorded a career-best throw in the weight throw of 44 feet, 8 ¾ inches at the 2019 Dutch Holiday Preview. He career-best in the shot put is 36 feet, 11 ½ inches at the 2020 Heart Indoor Championships. Her outdoor best in the shot put is 36 feet, 11 inches at the Central Methodist Open in 2019, while her best throw in the hammer was 110 feet, 7 inches at the William Penn Invitational in 2019. In addition, Madison owns the ninth best throw in school history in the javelin with a toss of 90 feet, 10 inches at the 2019 Creer Invitational in Saint Charles, Mo.

Madison is pursuing a degree in psychology and criminal justice with a minor in child advocacy studies. In five completed semesters, Madison has been named to the President's List twice, and the Dean's List three times. A member of the school's Honors Program, Madison is a member of Psi Chi, the international honors society in psychology. Among her activities, Madison is treasurer of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and is a student worker on campus.

Matney is the sixth Primo's Student-Athlete of the Month for the 2020-21 school year, joining Ellie Packer (women's volleyball), who was recognized in September; Connor Perrine (football), who was named in October; Saylor Drawe (women's soccer), who was chosen in November; and Dalton Myers (men's bowling), who was picked for the December honor; and Payton Curley (women's basketball), who was recognized in January.
