Culver-Stockton College women's bowler Carlee Hummel and defensive back David Hernandez have been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for January.

Hummel, a junior from Pittsburgh, Pa. (Burrell HS), is a three-year letterwinner with the women's bowling program. She has earned two all-tournament awards this season, and she helped lead the Wildcats to their first-ever tournament championship at the Clarke Invitational on Jan. 29-30.

For her efforts, Hummel was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Bowler of the Week. This season, Hummel has placed in the top 25 in all nine events bowled, including two top five finishes and four top 10 finishes.

Outside the bowling alley, Hummel is pursuing a degree in Art with an emphasis in graphic design. She was named to the Provost's List in the Fall of 2019 and the Spring of 2020, and the Honor Roll in the Fall of 2020.

Hernandez, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Independence HS), is a three-year member of the Wildcat football team. In 2021, Hernandez registered 35 total tackles, including 21 solo stops, recorded a team-best four interceptions and tied for the team-high with three fumble recoveries. In addition, Hernandez garnered three pass breakups and had seven passes defended. He was named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division's first team.

In the classroom, David is pursuing a degree in business administration. He was named to the President's List in the fall of 2021 and has been named to the Provost's List three times and the Honor Roll one time in his other four semesters at Culver-Stockton.

Hummel and Hernandez are the fifth pair of Primo's Student-Athletes of the Month for the 2021-22 school year, joining Jody Ellis (women's soccer) and Nolan Dreher (football) who were recognized in September, Sopheea Vomund and Dax Flowerree, who were named in October, and Montse Caparros (women's soccer) and Harrison Fey (men's soccer), who were lauded in November; and Taylor Green (women's basketball) and Josh French (men's cross country/track and field) who were acknowledged in December.
