Ortiz, Herrera Named Primo's Athlete's of the Month of December

Culver-Stockton College women's basketball player Aaliyah Ortiz and football player Dominic Herrera have been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for December.

Ortiz, a senior guard from Tucson, Ariz. (Palo Verde HS / Pima CC), is a two-year starter with the Wildcats. She has started all 15 games to date and is averaging 10.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.1 steals per game. In nine conference games this season, Ortiz has even better numbers, averaging 12.6 points5.7 rebounds4.4 assists and 3.6 steals per game. In the Heart of America Athletic Conference, Ortiz ranks four in minutes played (33.4/game), second in steals (47), fourth in assists (57), and sixth in blocks (13).

Off the field, Ortiz is a healthcare management major who was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2022. She is nominated for scholar-athlete against this season

Herrera, a sophomore tight end from Frisco, Texas (Heritage HS), is a two-year letterwinner with the Wildcat football program. He has 24 career receptions for 244 yards and three touchdowns over his two seasons on the Hill. Last season, Herrera registered 19 catches for 197 yards, averaging 10.4 yards per reception, and two touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division second team.

In the classroom, Herrera is majoring in sport communication. He was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in the fall of 2022.  

Ortiz and Herrera are the fourth Primo's Student-Athletes of the Month for the 2022-23 school year. Rachel Iacobellis (women's soccer) and Cade Coon (men's golf) were honored in September while Veiauna Herman (women's volleyball) and Gavin Moeller (men's bowling) were recognized in October. Kirstin Jannin (women's soccer) and Adam Fowler (men's soccer) were November's recipients.
