Sanchez, Todd Lauded as March's Student-Athletes of the Month

Culver-Stockton College women's lacrosse player Melanie Sanchez, and men's volleyball player Jacob Todd have been named the Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for March.

Sanchez, a senior attacker from Simi Valley, Calif. (Simi Valley HS / William Penn University), was a three-year member of the women's lacrosse program. She appeared in 40 career games, scoring 56 career goals and registering 11 assists for 67 career points. In March, Sanchez set a single game school record with eight goals and 11 total points in a victory over the University of Saint Mary, which led her to being the first Wildcat to be issued the Heart of America Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor. Melanie also played nearly 387 minutes in goal for the Wildcats during her tenure, making 56 saves on 137 shots on goal.

This season, Melanie totaled a career-high 28 goals and seven assists for 35 total points in 12 games. She was named to the inaugural Heart of America All-Conference team as a second team selection.   

Outside of athletics, Sanchez is pursuing a degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. She has been named to the Provost's List every semester she has attended classes on the Hill, and twice has been named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a Heart of America Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete.

Todd, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas (Home School), is a is a three-year letterwinner with the men's volleyball program. He appeared in all 26 matches for the Wildcats in 2023, garnering 194 total kills, or 2.94 kills per set, 51 total digs and three service aces. In his career, Todd has appeared in 40 career matches and has 250 career kills.

Off the court, Todd is pursuing a degree in mathematics. He has been named to the President's List in each of his five semesters on the Hill. Todd was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2022 and is nominated again this season.  

Sanchez and Todd are the seventh Primo's Student-Athletes of the Month for the 2022-23 school year. Rachel Iacobellis (women's soccer) and Cade Coon (men's golf) were honored in September while Veiauna Herman (women's volleyball) and Gavin Moeller (men's bowling) were recognized in October. Kirstin Jannin (women's soccer) and Adam Fowler (men's soccer) were November's recipients while Aaliyah Ortiz (women's basketball) and Dominic Herrera (football) were December's honorees. Katie Webb (women's basketball) and Sean Cleary (men's track and field) were lauded in January. Elaysia Rasmussen and Ryan Moore were honored for February.
