Ellis, Reinertsen Recognized as the First Primo's Student-Athletes of the Month of the 2023-24 School Year

Culver-Stockton College volleyball player Kyla Ellis, and soccer player Ruben Reinertsen have been named Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for September.

Ellis, a junior libero from O'Fallon, Ill. (O'Fallon HS), is a three-year letterwinner with the women's volleyball program. This season, Kyla has recorded a team-high 317 digs, which ranks fifth in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Ellis has played in all 21 matches and 75 sets to date, averaging 4.23 digs per set, which ranks seventh in the Heart. Ellis also leads the Heart in serve receptions with 529 overall.

In her career, Ellis has appeared in 77 matches and 269 sets, registering 806 digs or 3.00 digs per set. She has a 93.7 percent reception percentage for her career, returning 1,154 serves on 1,232 attempts. In addition, Ellis has tallied 42 career service aces.

Off the court, Ellis is pursuing a degree in legal studies. She is a member of the Culver-Stockton Mock Trial team and the Lega Studies Student Association. In addition, Ellis has been named to the President's List after all four semesters she has completed at C-SC, and she was named a Daktronics/NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2022 and has been nominated again this season. Ellis was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society during the 2021-22 school year.  

Reinertsen, a senior forward from Kristiansand, Norway (Lincoln College / Kristiansand Cathedral School), is a two-year letterwinner for the men's soccer team. This season, Reinertsen has played in all 12 games for the Wildcats, scoring a team-best nine goals for 18 points. The nine goals are tied for second in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Reinertsen has scored his nine goals on only 15 shots on goal, a percentage of 51.7 percent.

In his career, Reinertsen has played in 30 career games for the Wildcats and has 13 goals and 26 career points. He has a 56.3 percent shot percentage, drilling 13 goals on 27 career shots on goal.

Off the field, Reinertsen is pursuing a degree in business administration who has been named to the President's List in each semester at C-SC. Reinertsen currently serves as an Ambassador for the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Chapter of Culver-Stockton College and was recently got awarded the Memorial Education Fund Scholarship through IMA.   

Ellis and Reinertsen are the first athletes to be named student-athletes of the month for the 2023-24 school year. The Wildcat Athletic Department picks two student-athletes (one male / one female) each month throughout the school year recognizing students for their academic and athletic achievements.
