Frizzell, Bland Named October's Student-Athletes of the Month

Culver-Stockton College soccer player Mackenzie Frizzell, and golfer Craig Bland have been named Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for October.

Frizzell, a junior goalkeeper from Maple Park Ridge, Vancouver, British Columbia (Fox HS) is a three-year letterwinner with the women's soccer program. This season, Mackenzie tied the school record for shutouts in a season with eight while recording a 1.55 goals against average and 62 saves in 1339:22 minutes of action. She started 16 of the 18 games played by the Wildcats.

In her career, Frizzell has started 33 of the 36 games she has appeared in. She has played 29:62:41 total minutes and has a 1.43 goals against average. Her 15 career shutouts is tied for third on the school's all-time career list.

Off the field, Frizzell is pursuing a degree in elementary education. She was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete as a sophomore. In four completed semesters at Culver-Stockton, Mackenzie has been named to the President's List two times and the Provost's List two times. 

Bland, a senior from Hudson, Ill. (Normal West HS / Illinois Central College), is a two-year letterwinner for the men's golf team. During the fall portion of the 2023-24 season, Craig registered three top five finishes and four top 10 finishes in five tournaments. In nine rounds during the fall, Bland averaged 73.8 strokes per round.

Last season, Craig played in nine tournaments and finished 12th or better in four of them, including a fifth-place finish at the Saints Classic in South Bend, Ind. In 19 rounds, Craif recorded an average score of 77.4 strokes per round.

Off the golf course, Craig is pursuing a degree in political science. In his two completed semesters, Craig has been named to the President's List both times.

Frizzell and Bland are the second athletes to be named student-athletes of the month for the 2023-24 school year. Kyla Ellis (women's volleyball) and Ruben Reinertsen (men's soccer) were recognized in September. The Wildcat Athletic Department picks two student-athletes (one male / one female) each month throughout the school year recognizing students for their academic and athletic achievements.
