Oetting, Ribes Picked as January's Student-Athletes of the Month

Culver-Stockton College basketball player Avery Oetting and baseball player Anthony Ribes have been named Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for January.

Oetting, a sophomore guard from Hallsville, Mo. (Hallsville HS) is a two-year starter with the women's basketball program. Avery has appeared in 56 career games, making 45 starts, including all 26 games played to date during the 2023-24 campaign.

Avery has averaged 10.5 points per game, including 11.7 points per game this season. She is a career 39.7 percent (93-234) shooter from the 3-point arc and an 87.9 percent (80-91) shooter from the free throw line. Avery is also averaging 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game in her career to date.

In her inaugural season in 2022-23, Avery averaged 9.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40.8 percent from distance and 83.8 percent from the foul line. She was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.

Off the court, Avery is pursuing a degree in accounting. She was named to the President's List in the Fall of 2022 and the Spring of 2023, and the Provost's List in the Fall of 2023. Avery is nominated for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, which is slated to be released in March. 

Ribes, a junior pitcher from Gillespie, Ill. (Gillespie HS), is a three-year letterwinner for the baseball team. During his career, Anthony has made 20 career appearances, made 14 starts, and hurled 65.1 innings to date.  This season, Anthony is 1-0 in two starts and 11 innings pitched.

Off the diamond, Anthony is pursuing a degree in health science. He was named to the President's List after the Fall 2022 and Fall 2023 semesters, and the Provost's List after the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. He was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2023 and will be nominated again this season.

Oetting and Ribes are the fifth pair of athletes to be named student-athletes of the month for the 2023-24 school year. They join September's honorees Kyla Ellis (women's volleyball) and Ruben Reinertsen (men's soccer), October's honorees Mackenzie Frizzell (women's soccer) and Craig Bland (men's golf), November's honorees McKenna Little (women's soccer) and Anthony Flores (football), and December's honorees Megan Diehl (women's basketball) and Seth Larson (men's basketball).

The Wildcat Athletic Department picks two student-athletes (one male / one female) each month throughout the school year recognizing students for their academic and athletic achievements.
