Hornberger, Kirk Named Student-Athletes of the Month for March

Culver-Stockton College lacrosse player Jessica Hornberger and baseball player Kannon Kirk have been named Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for March.

Hornberger, a senior midfielder from St. Louis, Mo. (Francis Howell HS) is a four-year letterwinner with the lacrosse program. Hornberger has appeared in 46 career games, scoring eight goals and six assists for 14 total points. She has registered 53 groundballs, which is seventh on the school's all-time list, and 28 caused turnovers, which is third on the all-time list, and 18 draw controls, which is tied for sixth all-time.

During the 2024 season, Hornberger has played in eight of the 12 games to date, recording three goals and two assists. She has 12 groundballs, seven caused turnovers and five draw controls.   

Off the field, Hornberger is pursuing a degree in communication with a minor in Spanish. She has been named to the honors list in five semesters, topping the President's List one time, the Provost's List three times and the honor roll, one time. Hornberger has been inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta Communication honor society. Among her activities, Jessica is Editor-in-Chief to the Wildcat Wire and Harmony, the college's literary magazine.      

Kirk, a junior infielder from Virden, Ill. (North Mac HS), has appeared and started 36 of the 40 games played by the Wildcats this season. He is batting a team-best .434, which currently leads the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Kirk has collected 49 hits, including 11 doubles and two home runs, and has 20 runs batted in.  

Off the field, Kirk is pursuing a degree in business administration. He has been named to the school honors list in all five semesters during his tenure on the Hill, He was named to the President's List in the Spring of 2022, the Provost's List in the Fall of 2021, and the Honor Roll in the Fall of 2022, the spring of 2023 and the Fall of 2023, Kirk was named a Daktronics/NAIA Scholar-Athlete last season.

Hornberger and Kirk are the seventh pair of athletes to be named student-athletes of the month for the 2023-24 school year. They join September's honorees Kyla Ellis (women's volleyball) and Ruben Reinertsen (men's soccer), October's honorees Mackenzie Frizzell (women's soccer) and Craig Bland (men's golf), November's honorees McKenna Little (women's soccer) and Anthony Flores (football), December's honorees Megan Diehl (women's basketball) and Seth Larson (men's basketball), January's honorees Avery Oetting (women's basketball) and Anthony Ribes (baseball); and February's recipients Rosa Anguiano (softball) and Gabe Cox (men's basketball).

The Wildcat Athletic Department picks two student-athletes (one male / one female) each month throughout the school year recognizing students for their academic and athletic achievements.
