Bloom, McNamee Recognized as September's Student-Athletes of the Month

Culver-Stockton College volleyball player Lauren Bloom, and men's cross country runner Gannon McNamee have been named Primo's Pizza and Subs Student-Athletes of the Month for September.

Bloom, a junior setter from Rochester, Ill. (Rochester HS), is a three-year letterwinner with the women's volleyball program. This season, Lauren has recorded a team-high 344 set assists in the Wildcats' two-setter system. That mark ranks 11th in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Bloom has also registered 17 service aces and 102 digs while playing in 61 of the 72 sets this season.

In her career, Bloom has appeared in 72 matches and 270 sets, recording 1,827 set assists in her career. She is just 173 assists away from becoming the ninth person in school history to reach 2,000 career assists. In addition, Bloom has totaled 531 digs and has 71 career service aces. During her freshman season, Bloom was named to the All-Heart of America Team as an honorable mention selection.

Off the court, Bloom is pursuing a degree in marketing. She has been named to the President's List in three of her four completed semesters and the Provost's List once, Bloom was named a Daktronics/NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2023 and has been nominated again this season. 

McNamee, a senior from Mount Pleasant, Iowa (Mount Pleasant, HS / Iowa Wesleyan University), is in his second year as a member of the men's cross country and track and field teams after transferring from Iowa Wesleyan University. McNamee is listed in the top 10 in three of the four cross country distances among school marks. He has the second-highest time at the five-kilometer distance, the third-best time in the four-mile distance, and the sixth-best time at the eight-kilometer distance.

In addition to his cross country feats, McNamee is also listed in the top 10 in several indoor and outdoor track and field categories. During the indoor season last year, he has posted the fourth-highest time in the 3000-meter run, the third-highest time in the 5000-meter run, and the fourth-best time in the 3000-meter race walk.

During the outdoor season, McNamee is second all-time in the 3000-meter run, third in both the 5000-meter and 10,000-meter runs, and ninth in the 1500-meter run. He also has the fourth best mark in the 5000-meter race walk.    

In the classroom, McNamee is pursuing a degree in criminal justice. In his two completed semesters since his transfer from Iowa Wesleyan, he was named to the President's List after the spring 2024 semester, and the Provost's List after the fall 2023 semester. In July, McNamee was recognized as a Heart of America Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete.

Bloom and McNamee are the first athletes to be named student-athletes of the month for the 2024-25 school year. The Wildcat Athletic Department picks two student-athletes (one male / one female) each month throughout the school year recognizing students for their academic and athletic achievements.
