Scott Homers Twice as Wildcats Split on Opening Day

The Culver-Stockton baseball team kicked off the 2023 season with games against Bethel (Tenn.) and Faulkner (Ala.) Saturday afternoon in Millington, Tenn.

The Wildcats began the season with a 4-2 victory over Bethel as Jordan Scott's 3-run homer highlighted a come-from-behind victory.

C-SC trailed 2-0 entering the sixth inning when Jackson Day doubled with one out to start the rally. Keli'i Price collected his third hit of the day to put runners at the corners before Andrew Fay singled home pinch-runner Brandon Aragon with the first run of the season. Scott followed with his three-run bomb.

Davin Meier pitched the final two innings to pick up the save for Braden Taylor, who hurled two innings of relief for starter Nicolas Goebert. Meier allowed one hit and struck out one while Taylor gave up two this and fanned three.

Offensively, Price finished 3-for-3 with two doubles while Fay was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

In game two, the Wildcats tried to rally from a 5-0 second inning deficit but fell short to sixth-ranked Faulkner.

Trailing 5-1 in the in the fifth inning, Scott connected for his second 3-run homer of the day to bring the Wildcats to within 5-4.

C-SC put the tying run on base in the seventh inning when Fay, who had two hits in the game, doubled with two outs. However, Scott grounded out to end the game.

Joining Fay with multiple hits was Ryan Osso with two safeties as the Wildcats recorded five hits in the game.

The Wildcats are slated to play two more games Sunday in Millington, facing Marian (Ind.) at 1 p.m. (EST) before wrapping up the weekend with another tilt against Bethel at 4 p.m. EST.
