Wildcat Nine Rallies Late to Earn Two Victories

The Culver-Stockton baseball team scored runs late to finish the opening weekend of the season with two come-from-behind victories Sunday afternoon in Millington, Tenn.

In the first game Sunday, the Wildcats plated three runs in the fifth inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit and defeat Marian (Ind.) University 5-4.

In their next game, C-SC trailed Bethel (Tenn.) 2-0 entering the sixth inning when it scored one run to cut the lead in half. The Wildcats then exploded for five runs in the seventh inning to pick up a 6-2 victory.

Against Marian, the Knights plated four runs in the third inning on the strength of six hits to break a scoreless tie.

C-SC answered in the bottom of the inning when Keli'i Price led off with a single and scored on a double by Andrew Fay. Fay, who went to third on an error, scored later on a balk to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The score was still 4-2 in the fifth inning when Fay began a two-rally with a walk. Jordan Scott followed with a single to put runners at the corners.

Collin Hall drove in Fay with the first run of the inning with a single before Alex Harbin cleared the bases with a two-run double and give C-SC a 5-4 lead.

Donovan Prost pitched around a leadoff error in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save for reliever Clay Street. Street hurled 3 1/3 innings in relief of starter Josh McPheron allowing just one hit.

The Wildcats found themselves staring at a 2-0 deficit against Bethel after five innings when they plated a run in the sixth inning thanks to a Bethel error.

Caden Power, pinch-hitting for Harbin reached on an error with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. He came around to score on a RBI single by Dax Flowerree.

Down their final three outs in the seventh, the Wildcat offense came alive when Price and Brandon Aragon both singled to being the frame.

Fay walked to load the bases and Price scored the tying run on a passed ball.

After Scott struck out for the first out, Hall delivered a two run single to give the Wildcats a 4-2 lead, and Power followed with a two-run homer to make it a four-run advantage.

Nate Smith, who relieved starter Anthony Ribes in the sixth inning, earned the victory. Ribes pitched the first five innings, scattering four hits, striking out five and walking three. Prost pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

The Wildcats (3-1) return to action next Friday, Feb. 10, when they begin a four-game series against William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. The doubleheader on Friday is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
