Wildcats Walk Off Statesmen for First Heart Victory, Settle for Split

The Culver-Stockton baseball team plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 5-4 victory and earn its first Heart of America Athletic Conference game of the year Monday afternoon over William Penn University.

The Statesmen rebounded in the nightcap by holding the Wildcats to four hits in a 14-2 victory to earn the split on the first day of scheduled back-to-back doubleheaders between the two teams.

C-SC, which snapped a 10-game losing streak with the game one victory, trailed 4-3 going to the final inning on a Franklin Aparicio solo home run in the sixth inning.

Jordan Scott started the winning rally with a lead off walk to open the seventh inning. Ryan Osso sacrificed Scott to second and Brandon Aragon singled Scott home to tie the game.

Andrew Fay worked a walk to move Aragon and the winning run to second base. After a pitching change, Keli'i Price hit a ball down the third base line that tipped off the top of the diving third basemen's glove and scooted away as Aragon raced home with the game-winning run.

Price, who homered in the first inning, finished game with two hits and two runs batted in. Aragon also collected two hits in the game. Fay hit a solo home run.

Clay Street, the third pitcher of the game for the Wildcats, hurled the final two innings to pick up his second victory of the season. Street allowed two hits and one run while striking out one.

In the nightcap, William Penn scored in every inning but the first picking up the victory. The Statesmen banged out 13 hits, including a double and two home runs.

The Wildcats got a RBI single from Osso and a sole home run from Fay for their only scoring in the game.

C-SC and William Penn are slated to conclude their four-game series Tuesday, March 21, with a doubleheader at Nichols Field in Canton. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
