Clarke Ices Wildcat Offense to Earn Heart of America Victory

The Culver-Stockton baseball team was outhit 6-3 in a 4-1 loss to Clarke University in game one of a scheduled doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Peosta, Iowa.

Game two was canceled due to inclement weather. The Wildcats and Pride will conclude their series with a doubleheader Monday, March 27. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Neither team was able to produce much offensively through the first four innings.

Clarke collected two hits in the first four innings before finally breaking through in the fifth inning. Two walks, a bunt single and a two-run single led to a 2-0 Pride lead after five innings.

The hosts added two more runs in the sixth inning with the help of a walk, a wild pitch and two singles to go to the seventh inning leading 4-0.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats were held hitless until the seventh inning when Keli'i Price broke up the no-no with a leadoff single.

Price advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a hit by Collin Hall

After Alex Harbin popped out and Dax Flowerree grounded out, Caden Power got C-SC on the board with a two-out single to score Price and bring the tying run to the plate.

However, Clarke's Issac Rohde induced Jordan Scott to ground out to third to end the game.

Davin Meier started for the Wildcats and pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and three hits. He struck out five and walked two. Nicolas Goebert hurled the final 1 1/3 innings, scattering three hits and allowing two runs. He issued one walk and struck out two.
