Wildcat Nine Splits with Clarke in a Pair of One-Run Games

The Culver-Stockton baseball team split a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader with Clarke University Monday afternoon in Marion, Iowa.

In a pair of pitching duels, the Wildcats earned a 2-0 victory in the opener, while the Pride posted a 3-2 extra-inning victory in the nightcap.

In a game where both teams registered three hits, the Wildcats were able to break through in the sixth inning of a scoreless game with two runs.

Brandon Aragon opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Andrew Fay. Keli'i Price then drilled a two-run homer for the only runs of the game to make a winner of starter Stefan Stockwell.

Stockwell pitched five shutout innings, allowing just one hit, while walking two and striking out three.

Fay started the sixth inning and allowed two singles, one in the sixth and one in the seventh. Struck out the side in the seventh to earn his second save the season.

In the nightcap, C-SC was limited to four hits in the game while Clarke collected six hits overall.

Josh McPheron pitched six strong innings for the Wildcats, scattering four hits. He gave two runs in the second inning with one of those runs being unearned.

The scored stayed that way until the fifth when the Wildcats cut the deficit in half on a solo home run by Dax Flowerree.

Trailing 2-1 in the seventh, C-SC forced extra innings when Collin Hall doubled to start the frame. Jaison Andujar struck out but Flowerree followed with a single to put runners at the corners.

Caden Power then delivered a RBI single to score courtesy runner Isaac Akana-Griffin to knot the game at 2-2.

Fay entered the game in the seventh and worked out of trouble to keep the game tied.

Neither team threatened in the eight inning before a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth walked off the victory for the Pride.

C-SC returns home this Saturday, April 1, to begin a four-game series with Mount Mercy University at Himsl Field. Saturday's doubeheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
