Baseball Nine Can't Solve Mount Mercy, Drop Second Straight Doubleheader

A pair of big innings in each game propelled Mount Mercy University to a doubleheader sweep of the Culver-Stockton baseball team for the second consecutive day.

The Mustangs, who sweep the four-game series, plated five runs in the top fo the first inning of game one route to an 8-5 victory. In the nightcap, Mount Mercy broke open a scoreless game with a five-run fifth inning to complete the sweep with a 10-1 victory.

Despite falling behind in the first game, C-SC tried to rally late by scoring in three of the final four innings. A RBI single by Keli'i Price in the fourth and a solo home run by Dax Flowerree got the Wildcats to within 7-2.

After the Mustangs plated a run in the sixth, the Wildcats scored two unearned runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Caden Power.

Price collected two of the seven hits recorded by the Wildcats. Price and Power finished with two runs batted in each.

In game two, Anthony Ribes held the Mustangs scoreless for 4 2/3 innings before trouble surfaced. Three straight singles accounted for three runs before a two-run homer ended a five-run frame.

Ribes registered seven strikeouts among the 14 outs he got against the visitors. He also walked five and allowed six hits.

Jordan Scott drove in the only C-SC run, scoring Caden Power with a single in the fifth inning.

The Wildcats' scheduled game against Iowa Wesleyan on Tuesday, April 4, has been postponed. C-SC is now slated to begin a four-games series against Peru State College at Nichols Field this Friday and Saturday, April 7-8 in Canton. Game time each day is set for 1 p.m.
