Wildcat Baseball Rallies in Game Two to Earn Split, Win Series against Peru State

The Culver-Stockton baseball team scored five times in the sixth inning en route to a 7-6 victory and a split of Saturday's doubleheader with Peru State College at Nichols Field.

After sweeping Friday's doubleheader, the Wildcats claimed three of the four games in the series with the late-game heroics Saturday. Peru State won the first game 13-7. 

C-SC is now 11-23 overall and 7-12 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Bobcats fall to 10-14 overall and 7-9 in the league.

The Wildcat trailed 4-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning when the offense came alive. C-SC strung together five hits, a hit batter and a crucial Bobcat error to take the lead.

Keli'i Price began the frame with a single and moved to second when Jaison Andujar was hit by a pitch. Jordan Scott reached on a bunt single to load the bases and the Wildcats were in business.

After Dax Flowerree hit into a 5-2-3 double play, Andujar scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch with Scott taking third.

Bryan Barreto walked  to put runners at first and third when Ryan Teuscher singled home Scott to tie the game at 2-2.

Collin Hall, in a pinch-hitting role, then delivered a single to score courtesy runner Isaac Griffin-Akana. The throw from the outfield went into the dugout, allowing Teuscher to score and Hall to go to third,

After a pitching change, Ryan Osso greeted the new reliever with a RBI single to make the score 7-4.

The Bobcats made some noise in the seventh, scoring twice with two outs; however, Andrew Fay caught Efraim Torres looking for strike three to end the game and earn the save.

Stefan Stockwell picked up the victory in relief of Anthony Ribes after hurling 1 2/3 innings. Stockwell allowed one hit and no runs in his outing.

In game one, the Bobcats scored six runs in the second and and fourth innings to pull away from the hosts.

C-SC plated two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Scott and a RBI single by Caden Power. The Wildcats added four more runs in the fourth inning on a grand slam homner by Andujar.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play a non-conference game against William Woods University this Tuesday, April 11. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. at Nichols Field.
