Owls Defeat Wildcats in Non-Conference Action

The Culver-Stockton baseball team dropped a non-conference game to William Woods University by the count of 16-6 Tuesday afternoon at Nichols Field.

The Wildcats trailed 8-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning when the offense finally came alive. Keli'i Price and Jaison Andujar collected back-to-back one singles to send the Owls to the bullpen.

Jordan Scott greeted reliever Andrew Fyffe with a three-run homer to left field to cut the lead to 8-5.

Dax Flowerree followed with a walk and Bryan Barreto doubled to bring the tying run to the plate.

However two dazzling plays by shortstop Vincent Pyeatt stopped the hosts from scoring any more runs. He snagged a line drive by Ryan Teuscher for the second out, and then threw out Jackson Day on a ball hit in the hole between second and third.

C-SC threatened again in the sixth inning, putting the first two runners on base. After Price and Andujar popped up to the infield on consecutive pitches for the first two outs, back-to-back walks to Scott and Flowerree drove in a run to make it 8-6. However, Barreto flied out too centerfield to end the threat.

The Wildcats were held scoreless over the next three innings and the Owls plated eight runs over the final two innings to put the game on ice.

Price finished the day with three hits  to lead the 13-hit attack by the Wildcats. Andujar, Scott and Teuscher registered two hits each.

The Wildcats (11-24) are scheduled to return to conference play this weekend, April 15-16, at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Doubleheaders are set to begin at 1 p.m. each day.
