Wildcat Nine Swept by Grand View Sunday; Lose Three of Four to Vikings

The Culver-Stockton baseball team ended the weekend by being swept by Grand View University Sunday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Wildcats were limited to four hits in a 10-6 loss in game one. In the nightcap, C-SC struck out 11 times in a 4-1 setback that gave the Vikings twinbill sweep and the series victory of the four-game set.

Both teams scored early and often in the opener with the Wildcats and Vikings playing to a 6-6 tie after three innings.

C-SC scored a run in the first, two more in the second inning and four in the third frame. Meanwhile, Grand View four runs in the first inning and two more in the second inning.

The Vikings pitching staff locked down the C-SC offense in the final four innings, allowing no runs and no hits over that span. Grand View notched four runs in the fourth inning to pull away for the victory.

Jordan Scott led C-SC with a two-run homer in the third inning.

In the nightcap, the hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one inning, but the Wildcats tied the game in the third inning on a RBI single by Dax Flowerree.

The Vikings broke the tie with a two-run fourth inning and then added an insurance run in the sixth inning to go up 4-1.

Again, the C-SC bats went silent with just one hit over the next three innings before registering a pair of singles in the seventh inning to bring the tying run to the plate.

However, Keli'i Price ground out and Flowerree struck out to end the threat and the game.

Brandon Aragon led the offense with three of the six Wildcat hits in the game.

C-SC is scheduled to conclude the regular season next weekend, April 28-29, against Central Methodist University at Nichols Field. Game time is is set for 1 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
