
Scott Homers in Opener, Osso Collects Three Hits in Nightcap as 'Cats Suffer DH Loss to Bethel
The Culver-Stockton baseball team completed its opening weekend with a pair of losses to Bethel University at Wildcat Park in McKenzie, Tenn.
The Wildcats dropped the opening game 5-4 on a bases-loaded, walk-off single by Bethel in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the nightcap, Bethel plated seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 9-3 victory.
The Wildcats collected just is hits in the first game with Jordan Scott leading the way with two hits, including a three-run homer in the third inning which gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.
That lead was short-lived as Bethel plated two runs in the bottom of the third to regain a 4-3 lead. However, C-SC battled back in the fifth inning as Tristan Meny drove home Jaison Andujar with a one out single that tied the game.
With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Bethel put the first two batters on base via a walk and a fielder's choice. After a sacrifice moved runners to second and third, the Wildcats registered a single to win the game.
Nicolas Goebert started and pitched the first six innings for the Wildcats, scattering seven hits and allowing four runs. Goebert walked one and struck out five. Stefan Stockwell relieved started the seventh inning and was saddled with the loss.
In the second game, Bethel scored two in the first ad five more in the second off of starter Clayton Woods. Carson Selk relieved Woods and allowed two runs on three hits. Selk walked one and struck out three. Davin Meier pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed one hit and no runs.
Offensively, the Wildcats were limited to six hits with Rayn Osso going 3-for-4 with a double and a run batted in. Scott added two hits and a RBI.
The Wildcats (1-3) are scheduled to play in a triangular next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, at Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. C-SC is slated to fafe Done (Neb.) at 1:30 and Columbia at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
