Baseball Suffers Run Shortage in Pair of Losses Saturday

The Culver-Stockton baseball team was limited to three total runs in losing a pair of games against Doane (Neb.) and Columbia (Mo.) Saturday afternoon in Columbia, Mo.

The Wildcats scored a single run in a 4-1 loss to Doane in the opening game. In the nightcap, C-SC plated two runs in the opening inning of the nightcap against Columbia, but was shutout the rest of game in a 4-2 setback.

After Doane grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one, the Wildcats responded in the bottom of the inning when Kannon Kirk singled with two outs. The Tigers intentionally walked Jaison Andujar and Jordan Scott made them pay with a two-out single to tie the game.

Doane notched two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to account for the 4-1 final. C-SC, which had four hits in the first three innings, managed just three hits over the final four innings of the game. Jackson Day was the only Wildcat to record two hits in the contest.

In the nightcap with Columbia, the Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Andujar tripled home Kirk with the first run and then scored the second run on a throwing error by the right fielder.

With two hits in the first inning, the Wildcats managed just three more hits over the final six innings. Ryan Osso led the offense with two singles.

Columbia plated a run in the second inning and took a 3-2 with two runs in the third inning before adding an insurance run in the fifth frame.

Clayton Woods went the distance for the Wildcats, scattering six hits in the game. He walked two and struck out five.

The Wildcats (1-7) will take next week off before facing Concordia (Neb.) Feb. 24-25 in a four-game series in Fort Scott, Kan. The first game each day is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
