Wildcat Nine Splits at MVC Sunday; Claims Series Victory over the Vikings
The Culver-Stockton College baseball team dismantled Missouri Valley College 12-1 in the opening game Sunday to earn a series victory over the Vikings in Marshall, Mo. The Vikings avoided the sweep with a come-from-behind 11-7 victory in the nightcap.
In the game one victory, Nicolas Goebert pitched a complete game to pick up his first victory of the season. Goebert scattered seven hits and allowed on run over his seven innings pitched. He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.
Offensively, the Wildcats, who banged out 22 total hits in Saturday's doubleheader sweep, started where they left off Sunday by collecting 15 hits in the opener.
Kannon Kirk and Tristan Meny both registered three hits and two runs batted in, and Jaison Andujar garnered a pair of hits, including a hime run, and three RBI to lead the way.
Jackson Day and Wyatt Wright also collected two hits in the game, while Ryan Osso scored a game-high four runs.
The game was tied 1-1 when C-SC exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning. Osso and Day recorded RBI doubles and Andujar drilled a two-run homer to highlight the inning.
In game two, the Wildcats took a 4-1 lead after a three-run third inning that was highlighted by a double from Kirk, RBI singles by Andujar and Jordan Scott, and a sacrifice fly by Meny.
However, the Vikings scored two runs in the bottom of the third and then added six runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take an 11-4 lead.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the final two innings to make things interesting, but MVC was able to shut the door and salvage the final game.
Andujar collected three more hits to finish with seven hits in the four game series, while Kirk added two more hits and ended the weekend with nine hits. Meny, Bryan Barreto and Wright also had two hits each as the Wildcats collected 13 hits overall.
C-SC (7-18-1 overall and 4-4 in the Heart) is off until next Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24, when they play a four-game series at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The first game each day is set to begin at 1 p.m.
