Baseball Limited to Two Runs in Doubleheader Loss to Baker

The Culver-Stockton baseball team was limited to two total runs as it began a four-game series at Baker University by being swept in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Sauder Field in Baldwin City, Kan.

The Wildcats collected four hits in a 7-1 loss in the opening game. In game two, C-SC garnered five hits in a 2-1 loss to drop to 13-24-1 overall and 10-12 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

C-SC starter Anthony Ribes only allowed five hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work; however, he walked six and hit a batter which led to six runs allowed. Ribes struck out six but needed 89 pitches to clear 14 outs.

Offensively, the Wildcats collected four singles in the game with Jaison Andujar registering two of the four hits. Andujar scored C-SC's only run when Jordan Scott hit into a double play in the sixth inning.

In game two, the Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as the Wildcats loaded the bases before a walk to Wyatt Wright forced in run. C-SC had two hits in the inning and would only get three more hits the rest of the game.

Baker scored its two runs in the third inning on a leadoff single and RBI triple, and a one out double off of C-SC starter Clayton Woods.

Woods went the distance but suffered the hard-luck loss despite scattering seven hits and allowing two runs. Woods didn't walk a batter and struck out two.

Kannon Kirk had two hits to lead the Wildcat offense, which was held without an extra base hit the entire day.

The two teams are scheduled to complete the series Sunday, April 14, with another doubleheader at Sauder Field. The first game is set to start at 1 p.m.
