Barreto Drives in Four as Wildcats Split with Park Saturday

The last time the Culver-Stockton baseball team played at home they scored six times in the final inning to overcome a five-run deficit and earn a come-from-behind 8-7 victory over Clarke University on April 8.

On Saturday, the Wildcats needed another rally in their last at-bat in the opening game of a four-game series with Park University and the home team didn't disappoint, scoring three times for a 5-4 victory.

The Pirates made sure no rallies were forthcoming in the nightcap, scoring eight times in the first inning and rolling to a 9-2 victory to earn the split.

With Park leading 4-2 in the seventh inning of the opener, C-SC's Ryan Osso and Noble Oxford began the game-winning rally with a single and a walk to put the tying runs on base.

The excitement was subsided a bit when Jaison Andujar lined to second and Osso was doubled off second base putting the Pirates one out away from victory.

However, Tristin Meny started the rally over with a single to put runners at first and second. Kannon Kirk followed with an infield single to third to load the bases before Jordan Scott walked to force in a run and make it 4-3.

Bryan Barreto, who had two hits and two runs batted in earlier in the game, then delivered a single to right-center to score pinch runner Kevin Mueller and Kirk with the tying and winning runs to complete the comeback.

Barreto finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI while Meny recorded a multiple hit game with two hits in four-at bats.

Davin Meier, who relieved starter Anthony Ribes in the sixth inning, hurled the final 1 2/3 innings to improve his record to 2-1 on the season. Meier allowed one hit and struck out one in his five-out outing.

Ribes pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, scattering nine hits while allowing four runs. Ribes walked two and struck out four.

In the second game, the Pirates ambushed Wildcat starter Clayton Woods for eight first inning runs. Woods didn't record an out and was lifted after giving up a two-run homer to Edward Gonzalez.

Braden Taylor relieved Woods and was outstanding in relief, pitching six innings and scattering six hits and allowing just one run. Taylor did not walk a batter and fanned four. Liam Taylor hurled a scoreless seventh inning not allowing a hit but walking two.

The Wildcats offense consisted of a RBI groundout by Noble Oxford in the second inning, and a runs-scoring single by Jackson Day in the third inning.

Kirk was the only Wildcat with multiple hits, finishing with a 2-for-4 day.

The Pirates and Wildcats conclude the four-game series Sunday with two more games at Nichols Field. The doubleheader is the final regularly scheduled home games for the Wildcats this season. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
