Opening Inning Woes Lead to Series Loss for Baseball Nine

Park University plated three runs in the first inning of each game to propel the Pirates to a doubleheader sweep of the Culver-Stockton baseball team Sunday afternoon at Nichols Field in Canton.

The Pirates won the final three games of the series after the Wildcats walked off the visitors in the first game Saturday. Park used big opening innings in each of its victories, scoring eight times in the first inning of game two Saturday in addition to the outbursts on Sunday.

In the opener, the Pirates took a 3-1 lead after one inning and the Wildcats could never find their way back in a 6-2 loss. In game two, Park plated three runs and eventually built a 4-1 lead before C-SC scored three times in the fifth inning to tie the game.However, Park answered with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to come away with an 8-4 victory.

The Wildcats were limited to six hits in the opener with Jaison Andujar collecting two of the six safeties. Tristan Meny and Ryan Osso drove in a run each.

In the nightcap, Andujar and Kannon Kirk each went 3-for-4 while Jordan Scott was 2-for 3 in the Wildcats' nine-hit attack. Andujar, Scott and Bryan Barreto registered an RBI each.

The Wildcats are scheduled to conclude the regular season next weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, at nationally-ranked Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. The first game each day is set to start at 1 p.m.
