Baseball Nine Scores One Run in DH Loss to CMU

The Culver-Stockton College baseball team began the final series of the regular season with a doubleheader loss to seventh-ranked Central Methodist University at Estes Field in Fayette, Mo., Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats were held scoreless for the fourth time this season in a 5-0 loss in the opener. In the nightcap, the Eagles scored in every inning but the second in a 9-1 victory that guaranteed CMU at least a share of the conference title.

In the opening game, starter Anthony Ribes pitched four innings, allowing all five runs, on seven base hits. He walked three and struck out six. The Eagles tagged Ribes for two runs in the first inning and single runs in the second third and fourth innings.

Davin Meier hurled the final two innings and didn't allow a run while giving up two hits. Meier struck out two of the seven batters he faced.

Kannon Kirk and Wyatt Wright collected two hits each to lead the Wildcat offense that was limited to six hits in the game.

In the second game, CMU plated three runs in the first inning, a single run in the third, two runs each in the fourth and fifth inning, and a single run in the sixth inning against pitchers Clayton Woods and Braden Taylor.

The Wildcats registered their only run in the fifth inning when Jaison Andujar's infield single drove home Ryan Osso, who had walked.

The Wildcats and Eagles are scheduled to complete the series this Saturday, April 27, with another doubleheader in Fayette. The first game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
