Baseball Ends Season on a Sour Note

The Culver-Stockton College baseball team ended the 2024 campaign with a doubleheader loss to seventh-ranked Central Methodist University at Estes Field in Fayette, Mo. Saturday.

The Wildcats banged out 10 hits in a 12-8 loss to the Eagles in the opener and held the high-scoring Eagles scoreless through five innings of the nightcap before succumbing 6-1.

Jaison Andujar provided the only offense for the Wildcats in the second game, drilling a solo home run in the third inning, It was just one of three hits for C-SC in the game and Andujar collected two of them.

Starting pitcher Stefan Stockwell pitched five scoreless innings on the bump before CMU finally broke through with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Stockwell went 5 1/3 innings,, allowing five of the six runs and scattering eight hits. He walked five and struck out three.

In the opener, the Wildcats fell behind 8-1 after three innings before scoring six times in the fourth inning to close to within a run.

Noble Oxford and Andujar recorded run-scoring singles in the fourth inning before Tristan Meny delivered the big blow, a three-run homer.

CMU plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the fifth inning to completed the Eagle scoring. Kannon Kirk drove home Andjuar with a groundout in the seventh to account for the final Wildcat run.

Meny led the 10-hit attack with three hits and three runs batted in. Anduajr and Ryan Osso each collected two hits apiece with Osso garnering two runs batted in.

The Wildcats concluded the season with a 15-32-1 overall record and end with a 12-20 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
