
Bats Silent as Baseball Begins Season with Doubleheader Loss
The Culver-Stockton College baseball team registered just 10 hits and three runs in a season-opening doubleheader loss to Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn., Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats collected four hits in a 2-1 setback in the first game before garnering six hits and two runs in a 13-2 loss in the nightcap.
In the first game, C-SC struck first when Jordan Scott led off the second inning with a solo home run. Bethel tied the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run, and then took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.
In addition to Scott's round-tripper, three other Wildcats recorded singles in the game. The Wildcats were issued one walk and C-SC batters struck out eight times.
C-SC got a solid pitching outing from starter Davin Meier who allowed both runs on four hits over five innings. Meier struck out three and walked two. Reliever Garrett Hogard hurled a perfect inning with one strikeout.
In the nightcap, Bethel plated nine runs in the second inning en route to the easy victory. The Wildcats tallied six singles in the game while Bethel accumulated 13 hits, including four doubles.
C-SC's planted single runs in the sixth and seventh innings with Kannon Kirk driving in Ryan Osso with a groundout in the sixth, and Wyatt Wright scoring Harry Oden on a RBI groundout.
C-SC (0-2) concludes the four-game series with Bethel on Saturday, Feb. 8, with another doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 12 p.m.
