Andujar's Two Home Runs Help Wildcat Claim Game One Victory
Jaison Andujar drilled two home runs, including a walk off blast in the 14th inning, as the Culver-Stockton baseball team defeated Judson University 8-7 in the first game of a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Alton, Ill. Judson claimed the second game 9-1.
The Wildcats found themselves trailing 6-4 the final inning of a scheduled seven-inning game in the opener when Tim Meyer led off the inning with single. Andujar followed by blasting a long home run over the right field fence to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Neither team scored until the Eagles scratched across a run in the 14th inning and it appeared they had escaped with a victory.
However, the Wildcats had different ideas.
After Harry Oden grounded out to start the inning, Noble Oxford worked a walk with one out. Meyer struck out for the second output Andujar saved the day with an opposite field drive that cleared the left field wall to give C-SC the victory.
Andujar finished the day with two runs, a double and four runs batted in to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Oden finished with two hits, including a double, and two RBI while Meyer and Tristan Meny also collected two hits in the game.
Charlie Stergos was the last of four Wildcats pitchers and he recorded his first victory of the season after hurling 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
Cole Parkhill started the opener and pitched the first five innings, striking out six while allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits. Jared Marty followed with 3 1/3 innings giving out one run on five hits, while Carson Selk threw three scoreless innings and allowed no runs on four hits.
In the second game, Judson jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings and were never threatened to claim a split.
The Wildcats' only run came in the second inning on a solo home run by Jordan Scott. Scott finished with a home run and a double, while Bryan Barreto collected two hits before leaving the game as a precautionary move after staking a foul tip off the body late in the game.
The Wildcats (3-5) are scheduled to play a four-game series this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, at Nichols Field against the University of Indiana-South Bend. The first game Saturday is set to begin at 12 p.m.
