
Wildcats Break Out the Bats to Sweep Twinbill, Series from Graceland
The Culver-Stockton College baseball team used an offensive explosion to sweep a doubleheader and the series from Graceland University Tuesday afternoon at Nichols Field.
The Wildcats recorded nine hits in the first game to secure a 6-3 victory. That output was peanuts what came in the second game where the Wildcats banged out 22 hits and scored 23 runs in a 23-1 victory.
C-SC, who swept the first two games from the Yellowjackets Saturday, scored 11 runs on nine hits in the first inning of game two and it just snowballed from there for the Yellowjackets. Among the nine hits in the inning were grand slam home runs by Jaison Andujar and Jeremiah Morris. Jordan Scott added a two-run single while Harry Oden garnered a RBI single.
C-SC added six more runs in the second inning on a pair of three-run homers by Noble Oxford and Jordan Scott.
The Wildcats tacked on five more runs in the third to go up 22-0. Andujar had a run-scoring double, Oden delivered his second RBI with a single, and Ryan Osso registered a two run single. Kendall Rivero added a solo home run in the Sith inning to account for the scoring.
Josh Martini was the beneficiary of the offensive uprising on the mound, improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Martini hurled five strong innings scattering three hits and one unearned run. He struck out five and walked one. Jared Marty hurled two scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits, walking one and striking out two.
Oxford finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored. Andujar was 2-for four with five runs batted in, while Scott was 2-for-3 with six RBI. Oden finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
In the first game, C-SC trailed 1-0 in the third when Kannon Kirk hit a solo home run to get the Wildcats on the board.
The score stayed that way until the fifth inning when Tristan Meny and Scott opened the frame with back-to-back doubles to put runners at second and third. Bryan Barreto hit a sacrifice fly to score Meny and Morris singled home Scott to give the Wildcats the lead. Osso followed with a RBI double to make it 4-3 after five innings.
In the sixth inning, Barreto added two insurance runs to give him three runs batted in in the game.
Scott was the only Wildcat to record a multiple hit game, garnering three hits to end the day with five hits overall.
Cole Parkhill went the distance to even his record at 2-2 on the season. Parkhill allowed six hits and three runs over his seven innings. He walked two and struck out seven.
The Wildcats, now 12-16 overall and 6-10 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, are scheduled to host Grand View University in a four-game series this Saturday and Sunday at Nichols Field. Game time for the first game is at 1 p.m. each day.
