Benedictine Slips Past Wildcats Late

A missed free throw with just seconds remaining was the difference as Benedictine College slipped past the Culver-Stockton men's basketball team 65-64 Saturday afternoon in Atchison, Kan.

With the game tied at 63, the Ravens made two free throws with 17 seconds left to take a two-point lead.

After the Wildcats called timeout, C-SC's Jalen Blaize took an off-balance jumper with the clock running down. Seth Larson grabbed the offensive rebound and was fouled with just a second remaining. Larson missed the first free throw before making the second free throw.

The Wildcats held a 53-47 lead with 7:10 left in the game after Javon Modester made two free throws.

However, Benedictine reeled off 12 straight points over the next three minutes to take a 59-53 lead.

C-SC answered with a 7-2 run that finished with a 3-pointer from Ryan Moore with two minutes remaining in regulation.

After a basket by the Ravens upped the margin to 63-60, Larson drained a 3-pointer to tie the game with 1:17 to play, setting up the exciting finish.

Moore and Larson came off the bench to lead the Wildcats in scoring. Moore registered 17 points while Larson chipped in with 16 markers.

Javon Modester was the only starter to reach double figures, scoring 13 points while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out three assists and recording three steals.

C-SC, now 5-5 overall and 1-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, will be back in action this Wednesday, Dec. 14, when they play at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
