Men's Basketball Drops Heart Road Contest in Double Overtime

Graceland University outscored the Culver-Stockton men's basketball team 18-11 in the second overtime period to pick up an 81-74 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory Monday afternoon at the Morden Center in Lamoni, Iowa.

The game was close throughout with the game being tied 25-25 at halftime and with each team netting 28 points in the second half to send the game to the first extra session tied at 53. Both teams scored 10 points in the first overtime before the Yellowjackets put some distance between them and the Wildcats in the second overtime.

C-SC had two opportunities to win the game, one each in regulation and the first overtime.

The Wildcats led 53-50 after Robert Fry II split a pair of free throws with 1:14 to play in regulation. Graceland tied the game on the ensuing possession when Seth Compas scored and was fouled. Compas made the free throw to tie the game with 49 seconds left.

C-SC turned the ball over its next possession and the Yellowjackets missed a layup with 26 seconds left and the Wildcats grabbed the rebound. Frey had a chance to win at the buzzer but his shot would not fall.

In the first overtime, the Wildcats led 63-61 with under a minute to play and with possession. Having to shoot the ball, the Wildcats missed but grabbed the offensive rebound before the ball was stripped away. Graceland raced down the court and scored the tying basket with five seconds left.

With one more opportunity, CaRondis Harris-Anderson had an open 12-footer to win the game but the shot was off the mark, sending the game to a second extra period.

Seth Larson came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Jalen Blaize was the only other player in double figures with 20 markers, including four 3-pointers.

The Wildcats return home for a two-game homestand beginning Thursday night, Jan. 19, against Missouri Valley College in a conference game. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Charles Field House.
