Graceland Gives Men's Basketball First Home Loss

Graceland University made 13 3-pointers in handing the Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team its first home loss of the season with an 83-70 decision Wednesday night at Charles Field House.

The Yellowjackets drained 11 of their 13 treys in the first half, building a 48-29 lead after the first 20 minutes. The visitors were 11-for-22 from outside the arc and 16-for-32 from the field overall in the first half.

Graceland cooled off considerably in the second half, making just two of their 13 3-point attempts, to give the Wildcats a chance to get back in the game.

The Wildcats chipped away at the deficit early in the half but still trailed 64-50 with 12:16 to play in the game.

C-SC, which entered the game with a 3-0 mark at home, made its biggest run over the next three minutes, outscoring the Yellowjackets 11-2 to cut the lead the 66-61 on a dunk by CaRondis Harris-Anderson with 9:26 to play.

That would be as close as the Wildcats would get.

The Wildcats was held scoreless over the next four minutes and Graceland outscored the hosts 7-0 over that span to build the lead back to double digits at 73-61.

C-SC's Cole Schwartz split a pair of free throws with five minutes remaining to cut the lead to 11 points, but that was as close as the Wildcats would get the rest of the game.

The Wildcats, who played without three starters who were out with injuries, was led by Tai Walters-Whitaker with 19 points, a season high for the transfer from Governors State. Walters-Whitaker also led the way with eight rebounds and four assists.

Harris-Anderson came off the bench to net a season high 17 points, making seven of his nine shot attempts. Harris-Anderson grabbed five caroms.

The Wildcats, now 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is scheduled to play the second game of a three-game homestead this Saturday, Dec. 9, against Grand View University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at Charles Field House.
