Wildcats Squeak Past Grand View to Earn Second Heart Victory

The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team rebounded from Wednesday's home loss to Graceland to earn a 65-63 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Grand View University Saturday afternoon at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats trailed 60-59 after a put back dunk from the Vikings' Cecil Lee with 1:57 to play in regulation.

On the ensuing possession, the Wildcats had two cracks at the basket but missed both times. However, two offensive rebounds kept the ball in the Wildcats' possession and Seth Larson drained a short jumper to put the hosts back in front 61-60.

Grand View turned the ball over on its possession and Larson was fouled with 63 seconds left. Larson split two free throws to put C-SC up 62-60.

A long 3-point attempt was missed by the Vikings and C-SC's Nick Spannaus grabbed the rebound and was fouled. Spannaus also split a pair of free throws to give C-SC a 63-60 lead.

After the two teams made one free throw each to make the score 64-61, Grand View's Jaxson Young made a layup with 21 seconds left to once again make is a one point game at 64-63.

Grand View fouled Larson with 13.1 seconds remaining and Larson again make just one of two free throws to make it a two point advantage.

The Vikings had a chance to tie the game, but a short jumper by Young with two seconds left caromed off the rim and Spannaus grabbed the rebound to preserve the victory.

Larson led four Wildcat players in double figures with 16 points. Fry added 12 points and Connor Davis chipped in with 10. CaRondis Harris-Anderson came off the bench to contribute 11 markers.

The Wildcats, now 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Heart, is scheduled to host Clarke University in their final home game before Christmas. Game time is 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, art Charles Field House.
