Men's Basketball Comeback Bid Falls Short in First Home Game of 2024

The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team scored a season-low 27 points in the second half in a 62-57 Heart of America Athletic Conference loss to Missouri Valley College Wednesday night at Charles Field House.

Despite playing without leading scorer Robert Fry II, who was nursing a lower body injury, the Wildcats had a chance to tie the game in the final 10 seconds.

Trailing by as many as 14 points midway through the second half, the Wildcats whittled the deficit to 60-57 on an offensive rebound and basket by Ryan Moore with 58 seconds left.

Moore, who fouled on the play, missed the free throw forcing the Wildcats to play defense.

C-SC forced a missed shot attempt by the Vikings just before the shot clock expired and grabbed the rebound. However, C-SC turned the ball over with 15 seconds left forcing the hosts to foul.

Missouri Valley's Cowhand Smith missed the front end of a one-and-one and the Wildcats grabbed the rebound and advanced to halfcourt before calling timeout with seven second left.

The play drawn up worked to perfection as the inbounds pass found Moore wide open in the left corner, but his game-tying 3-point attempt cleaned off the rim. The Vikings grabbed the rebound and drained two free throws with three seconds left to seal the victory.

The Wildcats shot 33 percent from the field, going 19 for 58 overall. C-SC, which is fifth in the Heart on free throw percentage, shot just 55 percent from the stripe, making 11 of 20.

C-SC grabbed a season-high 15 offensive rebounds in the game leading to 14-9 edge in second chance points.

Seth Larson led three players in double figures for the Wildcats, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the year and the fourth of his career.

CaRondis Harris-Anderson netted 12 points and Moore, who had 11 points, also were in double figures.

Nicolas Fowler led all players with 12 caroms in the game. Tai Walters-Whitaker added five assists.
