Wildcats Can't Keep Pace in Road Loss to CMU

The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team suffered its third straight loss with a 103-82 setback to Central Methodist University Thursday night in Fayette, Mo.

The Wildcats, who defeated the Eagles 77-71 earlier this season in Canton,   trailed 53-49 at halftime but was outscored 50-33 in the second half.

The 103 points scored by the Eagles were most allowed by the Wildcats this season. The previous high was 93 by William Penn on Nov. 29.

The Wildcats couldn't keep up with the high-scoring Eagles, allowing a season-high 37 field goals in the game. C-SC was also outscored by 15 points from the 3-point arc (12-7).

C-SC shot 47 percent from the field for the game, however, the Eagles were slightly better at 49 percent. Each team went 17-for-22 from the free throw line.  

Five different players scored in double figures for the Wildcats with CaRondis Harris-Anderson leading the balanced attack with 16 markers. 

Robert Fry II added 14 points off the bench, while Seth Larson and Tai Walters-Whitaker each garnered 13 points. Nick Spannaus added 10 points.

Nicolas Fowler led the Wildcats with nine caroms and four assists. C-SC was out-rebounded 45-30 in the game, the 10th time this season they have been out rebounded by the opponent. The Wildcats are 2-8 in those games.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 7-9 overall and 5-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Eagles improve to 15-2 overall and 11-2 in the league.

GAME NOTES:

  • The last team to score 100 points against the Wildcats was William Penn (Iowa) when they tallied 119 points on Dec. 4, 2021.
  • The Wildcats fall to 2-2 this season when scoring 80 or more points.
  • The Wildcats drop to 1-9 this season when trailing at the half.
  • C-SC is now 2-7 on the road this season.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats are scheduled to host MidAmerica Nazarene University this Saturday, Jan. 20, at Charles Field House. The Pioneers are in a three-way tie (with CMU and Graceland) for first place in the Heart with an 11-2 league mark.

The Wildcats are slated to play five of their next six games at Charles Field House, including four in a row beginning Saturday.
