Men's Basketball Tops Century Mark in Home Victory over William Penn

The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team topped the century mark for the first time since 2018 in a 102-74 victory over William Penn University Wednesday night at Charles Field House.

The last time the Wildcats scored 100 or more points was on Feb. 10, 2018, in a 112-103 victory at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. That game came on the heels of a 101-97 victory over Missouri Valley on Feb. 7.

Against William Penn, C-SC snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Statesmen dating back to Jan. 16, 2019, when the Wildcats upended the Statesmen 93-92 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The Wildcats shot 54.5 percent in the first 20 minutes to take a 48-43 lead to the halftime locker room. C-SC netted a season-high 54 second half points and shot 52.4 percent to end the game at 53.3 percent overall.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats forced a season-best 25 turnovers, leading to a 21-9 advantage on points off turnovers. C-SC also set a season high with 12 steals in the game. Connor Davis had a team-high three steals.

Offensively, the Wildcats placed four players in double figures with CaRondis Harris-Anderson netting a his Wildcat career-high with 24 points. Harris-Anderson was 8-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-6 from the arc, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Tai Walters-Whitaker chipped in 19 points, six rebounds and four assists while Seth Larson garnered 18 points, six rebounds and two assists. Ryan Moore came off the bench to tally 11 markers.

The victory ended a four-game losing streak and improves the Wildcats to 8-10 overall and 6-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. William Penn falls to 5-15 overall and 4-12 in the Heart.

GAME NOTES:

  • The 40 made field goals and the 75 field goal attempts were each season highs for the Wildcats.
  • The Wildcats drained 13 treys for the second consecutive game.
  • C-SC improves to 2-0 when scoring 90 or more points this season. 
  • The Wildcats are now 7-0 who leading at the half.
  • C-SC is 4-6 after a victory this season.
  • Harris-Anderson 24 points is just the second time in his two-year career at C-SC he has scored 20 or more points in a game. His previous best was 21 against Hannibal-LaGrange on Nov. 2, 2022. Harris-Anderson reached double figures for the ninth time this season and the 18th time in his career.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will try to earn a season sweep over Peru State College this Saturday, Jan. 27, at Charles Field House. The Wildcats defeated the Bobcats 71-63 back on Dec. 16 in Peru, Neb. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
