Wildcats Fail to Protect Halftime Lead, Fall to Graceland at Home

The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team suffered a 77-70 home loss to Graceland University Wednesday night at Charles Field House in Canton.

The Wildcats led 40-36 at the intermission but was outscored 41-30 in the second half in dropping their second straight Heart of America Athletic Conference contest. C-SC is 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the league, while Graceland remains unbeaten with a 7-0 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the Heart.

After a slow start, the Wildcats heated up in the first half, shooting 67 percent from the floor (16-24) to offset the 52 percent shooting by the Yellowjackets to take the four-point lead at half time. C-SC was 5-for-9 from the 3-point line in the half while Graceland was 6-for-12.

However, the Wildcats cooled off considerably in the second half, shooting just 29 percent, while the Yellowjackets improved to 55 percent shooting in the half. The Wildcats finished at 46 percent and Graceland concluded the night at 53 percent from the floor.

Graceland also out-rebounded the Wildcats 34-26 in the game. The Yellowjackets grabbed seven offense rebounds and scored 12 second chance points off those caroms.

Three players reached double figures to lead the Wildcats with Connor Davis scoring 17 points. Ryan Stevenson chipped in with 15 markers while Tai Walters-Whitaker came off the bench to net 11 points after missing two three games due to injury.

Roee Dinnar led the Wildcats on the glass with seven rebounds and Walters-Whitaker dished out a team-high eight assists. Alex Jackson recorded two of the Wildcats' three steals in the game.

C-SC is scheduled to-lay the second game of a three-game homestead this Saturday, Nov. 23, against Baker University at the field house. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
