Men's Basketball Earns First Victory with Big Second Half

The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team scored a season-high 83 points in earning its first victory of the season with an 83-74 victory over Clarke University at the Kehl Center in Dubuque, Iowa, Tuesday night.

The victory was not only the first in nine games, it ended an 11 game overall losing streak and a seven-game road losing streak dating back to last season.The Wildcats are now 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

C-SC whittled a 14-point first half deficit to 40-39 by the halftime break and then outscored the Pride 44-34 to secure its first victory.

The Wildcats took their first lead of the second half at 51-49 on a layup by Roee Dinnar with 13:11 to play. Clarke tied the game two possessions later before C-SC went on a 10-0 over the next four minutes to put some distance between them and the hosts.

C-SC would extend its lead to as much as 14 points in the second half not letting the Pride get any closer than seven points the rest of the game. The Wildcats salted the victory away at the fold line, going 8-for-8 in the half and 14-for-15 overall.

Connor Davis, who entered the game averaging a conference best 20.9 points per game, netted 15 of his team-high 21 points in the second half. Davis was 8-for-9 from the foul line, including 6-for-6 in the second half.

Tai Walters-Whitaker contributed a season-high 18 points and matched his season-best with eight rebounds to compliment Davis' effort. Ryan Stevenson chipped in 13 points off the bench.

Dinnar recorded a game-high nine rebounds in 20 minutes of action off the bench. Keashon Petty totaled four assists.

The Wildcats will go for their second straight victory this Saturday, Dec. 7, with a road game at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. Game time was originally slated for 4 p.m. but was pushed back two hours due to Grand View hosting a postseason football game at noon. Tipoff is now set for 6 p.m.
