
Men's Basketball Can't Protect First Half Lead, Falls to Graceland on the Road
The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team couldn't hold a first half lead and fell to Graceland University on the road Wednesday night at the Morden Center in Lamoni, Iowa.
The Wildcats shot 53 percent from the field in building a 41-38 first half advantage, only their third time this season they have led at the half. However, C-SC cooled in the second half to 37 percent shooting, allowing the Yellowjackets to overtake them.
The difference in the game came at the foul line where Graceland was 18-for-22 from the foul stripe, including 14-for-16 in the second half. Meanwhile, the Wildcats shot just four free throws overall, making three of them, both season lows.
C-SC was able to keep the game close with a 41-28 edge in rebounding, including 15 offensive rebounds leading to a 19-3 advantage in second chance points.
The Wildcats got a strong performance from its bench as Martez Rhodes and Tai Walters-Whitaker combined for 35 points . For the second straight game, Rhodes recorded a career high, finishing with 18 points against the Yellowjackets. Walters-Whitaker chipped in with 17 markers. Ryan Stevenson led the starters with 12 points.
Alex Jackson and Jacob McGhee grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively, to lead the Wildcats on the glass. The seven caroms was a career-high for McGhee.
C-SC is slated to return to action this Saturday, Jan. 25, at home against Grand View University. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Charles Field House.
