Davis Scores 41 as Wildcats Get First Victory of New Year

Connor Davis scored a career-high 41 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team earned its first victory of 2025 with a 90-79 decision over William Penn University Wednesday night in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Davis recorded 23 of his 41 points in the second half as the Wildcats overcame a 39-37 halftime deficit to outscore the Statesmen 53-40 in the second 20 minutes of action. It is the first victory for the Wildcats since Dec. 17, when they upended Benedictine College at Charles Field House, a span of six games.

Davis is the first C-SC player to score 40 or more points in a game since Jalen Blaize tied the school record with a 46-point effort against Graceland on Jan. 5, 2022. Davis entered the game as the Heart of America Athletic Conference's leading scorer, averaging 18.9 points per game. His previous career high was 29 points in a double overtime loss to Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Nov. 9, 2024.

Davis finished the game 14-for-23 from the field, including 4-for-10 from the 3-point arc, and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. He had six of his 11 rebounds in the second half while adding three assist and a steal.

Davis had plenty of help in the game as Martez Rhodes and Tai Walters-Whitaker each registered 16 points in the game. Rhodes garnered 10 of his 16 points in the first half, while Walters-Whitaker had 15 of his 16 markers in the second half. Walters-Whitaker also dished out a game-high seven assists.

Jacob McGhee only scored four points the game; however, the senior from Centerton, Ark., added a career-high nine rebounds and had a game-high four steals.

C-SC outscored the Statesmen 24-15 from the foul line. The 24 made free throws was a season-high on a season-best 26 attempts.

The Wildcats are scheduled to host Park University this Saturday, Feb. 1, at Charles Field House. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
